Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It was not as popular as IV. The group managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked Toto's final lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was an ode to the classic sextet structure, and it was a more consistent, more powerful effort with a harder edge. Its edgier sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's improved ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard skills were also sharper, more complex, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam that was released as a set of two CDs called Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released their new studio album a few months after and then embarked on a world tour to promote it. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to find songs that had never been recorded prior to. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album titled Then & Now. It was the first album in the band's history that did not include a single song with the word "A" in its title. It also included one previously unreleased track, "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure and singer Williams was suffering from a severe laryngitis condition which hampered his singing. Additionally, Hungate returned to Nashville, while drummer Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia, met in England early in 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe who was working with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also had the appearance of singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
